Description
Oregon Sunstone is a natural, all-American gem, sourced exclusively from mines in the state of Oregon and sold without any treatment. A member of the Feldspar group, Oregon Sunstone displays a lively, sparkling luster caused by flat, reflective copper inclusions contained within the stone. This optical phenomenon is known as aventurescence — commonly referred to as Schiller — and gives each stone its distinctive shimmering character.
Oregon Sunstone is transparent, with those same copper inclusions responsible for producing warm body colors ranging from golden and orange to reddish tones. Some stones exhibit bi-color patterns, adding further visual interest. Because Oregon Sunstone is expensive to mine — with a ton of rock typically yielding only about a pound of rough, and only a fraction of that reaching gem quality — these stones represent exceptional value for fine jewelry applications.
Clean with warm, soapy water only. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and steam cleaners.
