Description
Oregon Sunstone is a natural, all-American gem sourced exclusively from mines in the state of Oregon and has received no treatment of any kind. A member of the Feldspar group, Oregon Sunstone owes its distinctive lively glitter to flat, reflective copper inclusions contained within the stone. This sparkling optical phenomenon is known as aventurescence — commonly referred to as Schiller — and gives each stone a unique inner life.
Oregon Sunstone is notably rare and expensive to mine. A full ton of raw rock typically yields only about one pound of Sunstone, with only a fraction of that reaching gem quality. The result is a highly desirable stone prized by jewelers for its beauty and natural origin story. Oregon Sunstone is transparent, with copper inclusions responsible for producing a warm reddish to golden-orange body color. Some individual stones exhibit striking bi-color effects.
These 7x5mm faceted octagon Sunstones are high-end quality, ranging from orange to light red in color, and arrive completely untreated — ideal for custom jewelry applications where natural gemstones are specified.
