Description
Boulder Opal is found exclusively in Queensland, Australia, where veins and patches of precious opal form within rugged brown ironstone boulders. These gems were created over millions of years as rainwater dissolved silica from the earth's surface and deposited it into natural cavities within the ironstone. The ironstone backing provides natural reinforcement, making Boulder Opal more resistant to cracks and fractures compared to other opal varieties.
This particular stone is graded Some Opalescence, meaning it contains at least a flash of opalescence throughout the stone. The opalescence covers approximately 1–5% of the gemstone's surface and is expressed in primary hues of purple and green. Each stone's pattern is entirely unique and is heightened by the play of opalescence. The rough material originated near the city of Cunnamulla, Queensland, Australia.
Sold by the piece. Care instructions: clean with warm, soapy water only. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and sudden rapid heat changes.
