Product Details

Aluminum oxide abrasive media is used as a sandblasting (beadblasting) media to achieve a sparkling, matte, or satin effect on metals and glass. Unlike glass beads — which have smooth, rounded surfaces — aluminum oxide grains feature various sharp points, making them highly effective at cutting and texturing surfaces. Sold in 5 lb jars.

Micron-graded media works as follows: there are 1,000 microns to a millimeter. The larger the micron number, the larger the individual particle. The designations Fine, Medium, and Coarse are applied relative to the range of micron-graded abrasives available.

Surface preparation is of vital importance before polishing, burnishing, and plating. Surface roughness may be provided by blasting with abrasive media or glass beads. Different surface finishes may be generated by varying the micron size of abrasives and air pressure. The degree of matte-to-satin finish depends on the hardness of the material being treated.

Features

  • Sharp-pointed grain geometry cuts and textures surfaces more aggressively than smooth glass beads
  • Produces a sparkling, matte, or satin surface effect on metals and glass
  • Micron-graded for consistent, repeatable results
  • Available in Fine (80 micron), Medium (100 micron), and Coarse (180 micron) grades
  • Sold in convenient 5 lb jars
