This new low tarnish and fire scale resistant sterling silver sheet is available in master sheets that measure 6" x 12".

If used improperly, the LG422 alloy can crack. Please read how to properly work with this alloy below:

When using a torch to anneal the metal, you must get it up to temperature by viewing the color. A darkened room makes it easier to see color change. If you are familiar with Argentium, this alloy works similar but is not prone to cracking as easily as Argentium. This alloy contains Germanium which creates an oxide on the outside surface. If heated too low, it could crack when quenched. The metal should be heated to a glowing pink/dull red color. Keep an even, steady flame over the piece.

Allow the metal to air cool until you can no longer see the glow (with lights on), you will still be able to see a slight glow with lights out. Then water quench the pieces.

Manufactured by LeachGarner, the leading mill house in the United States, this product is produced to meet the recent demand in the marketplace for sterling silver alloys that resist fire scale and tarnishing so product cleans up quickly and remain bright and shiny longer than traditional silver/copper sterling silver alloy goods. The LeachGarner LG422 low tarnish and fire scale resistant Sterling Silver is also brighter and harder than traditional Sterling Silver. You can use LeachGarner LG422 low tarnish and fire scale resistant Sterling Silver with both traditional silver and argentium silver solders.

We will cut to order full inch lengths from 6" x 1" to the maximum sheet length of 6" x 12". Cuts are only made along the 6" width.

All of our Anti-tarnish sterling silver sheet is 1/2 hard. 1/2 hard LG422 sterling silver sheet has a Vickers Hardness rating of 105-118. Dead soft or annealed LG422 sterling silver sheet has a Vickers Hardness rating of 60-70. It is relatively easy to make your silver dead soft by simply annealing with a torch or in a kiln; however it is more difficult to take dead soft sheet and harden it, let alone make it exactly 1/2 hard.

844LG-67 26 gauge is 10.6 dwt (16.5 grams) or 0.53 troy ounces
844LG-68 28 gauge is 8.8 dwt (13.7 grams) or 0.44 troy ounces
844LG-69 30 gauge is 6.4 dwt (10.0 grams) or 0.32 troy ounces

Annealing: The temperature range is 100^oF (538^oC) to 1200^oF (649^oC) with a dwell time ranging from 30 to 60 minutes at temperature depending on size of furnace load.
Brazing: Material can be torch or furnace brazed. Best results are obtained when using solders with a flow point below 1350^oF (732^oC)
Age Hardening: LG422 may be age hardened by annealing at 1000-1200^oF (538-649^oC) for 30-60 minutes followed by a water quench. Age at 575-650^oF (300-350^oC) for 45-60 minutes.
