Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Our standard sheet is made of 260 alloy brass, also known as Yellow Brass, which contains 68–70% copper with the balance zinc. This alloy is excellent for soldering (hard and soft) and ideal for hammer work and cold forming.
We also carry 230 alloy brass, also called NuGold or Red Brass, with 85–88% copper and the balance zinc. Because of the higher copper content, NuGold has a warmer, reddish color, often compared to 14K gold alloy. It is equally well-suited for soldering and hammer work.
Red Brass (NuGold) is also available in 6" × 6" sheets (see 143.372).
