The Diamond Scribe Pen is a dual-purpose tool designed for jewelers, gemologists, and metalworkers who need a reliable scriber and a quick preliminary stone-screening tool in one compact instrument. Styled and sized like a writing pen at 5-3/4" long, it features a retractable diamond tip that extends and retracts with a simple twist of the barrel — keeping the tip safely protected during storage and transport.
Features
-
Retractable Diamond Tip: Twist-action barrel extends or retracts the tip for safe, convenient storage.
-
Metal Marking: Functions as a traditional scriber for marking metals with precision.
-
Preliminary Stone Screening: Provides a quick scratch test to help identify stones that are not diamonds — if a stone scratches under the tip, it is not a diamond.
-
Pen-Style Form Factor: Familiar, comfortable grip that handles like a writing instrument.

How to Use
-
Extend the tip by rotating the pen body until the diamond tip is fully exposed.
- For metal marking, lightly scribe your line as you would with any standard scriber.
- For a preliminary stone check, gently draw a short line on an inconspicuous area of the stone's surface.
Interpreting Results
- If the stone shows a visible scratch: it is not a diamond.
- If the stone does not scratch: further testing is required to confirm the stone's identity.
Notes
-
Destructive test: This method may scratch the stone. Only perform this test if surface damage to the stone is acceptable.
- This tool does not differentiate between natural and lab-grown diamonds.
- This tool does not differentiate between diamonds and moissanite.
- Its sole screening function is to indicate that a stone which scratches under the tip is not a diamond — a non-scratch result does not confirm diamond identity.
