Our Italian made steel drawplates are made of properly hardened steel for reducing and shaping soft non-ferrous metals like gold, silver, platinum, palladium and copper alloys. Our Italian manufacturer has been producing the best quality steel drawplates in the world for over 40 years using modern machine tools mixed with old world craftsmanship and attention to detail. Holes are precisely graduated for even and easy to use draw downs.
This classic Italian round hole steel drawplate has 31 holes that are numbered from 1 to 31 with the number 1 representing the largest hole, in this case 2.0mm and then smaller diameters for each hole represented by a larger number. The smallest hole size is marked with the number 31. The smallest hole on this drawplate is approximately 0.25mm or 30 gauge, although the manufacturer makes no claims about the exact sizes of each individual hole besides the largest one. This drawplate is called a filigree draw plate mostly from tradition. In the old days of the jewelry manufacturing business measuring instruments were not very accurate and the drills used to make the holes in steel perhaps even less accurate. The term filigree drawplate described a drawplate that could make wire thinner than what could be accurately measured. Use this draw plate, as with all our classic Italian drawplates, with a modern digital gauge to check wire diameter as you draw down wire from one hole to another.
If you are looking for a calibrated drawplate with diameters marked on the holes take a look at our line of tungsten carbide insert drawplates.
