EarthCoat™ Black-Free™ is a cyanide-free black antique plating solution that deposits a rich, easily relievable black finish on a wide range of metals. Supplied ready to use for straightforward setup and consistent results, it’s an operator-friendly alternative to solvent black lacquers.

Operating Parameters

Basic Process

1. Heat Black-Free™ to ~130 °F and connect leads (work – / anode +).
2. Plate 30–60 seconds at 3–4 V; adjust time/voltage for part size and desired darkness.
3. Rinse, then relieve high areas with light abrasion to create the antique look.
4. Optional: clear lacquer after relieving to add sheen and protect the finish.
