Introducing the newest line of Fretz hammers, Fretz PrecisionSmith super-small stainless steel hammers, for precise detailed work on the finest of jewelry. These hammers are smaller than the Fretz mini hammer line with shorter length heads (65mm vs 70mm on average), smaller working surfaces and thinner handles. The Fretz PrecisionSmith line has the same highly polished and properly hardened stainless steel heads matched with fabulous hardwood handles that make a Fretz hammer a Fretz hammer.
This is the Fretz PrecisionSmith Narrow Raising Hammer HMR-408, with a handle length of 220mm (8-5/8") and a hammer head length of 65mm (2-1/2"). The hardened stainless steel heads are polished to perfection, and the rosewood handles have a special finish that feels downright sensual. No kidding, the rosewood handles and finished so well that they just plain feel good in you hand. The balance is perfect, and the polished stainless steel surface is exceptional.
Here is what Bill Fretz has to say about
Raising:
Raising is the compression of metal down to the stake without stretching it. The trick is to angle the metal off the stake so that there is an air gap for the compression. The Wide Raising Hammer can be used to raise sheet metal into a bowl against a wooden stake or a metal t-stake. It is also useful for raising in cylinders to form a concave shape. This same hammer also makes it possible to planish subtle concave shapes.
