Product Details

Italian made (since 2015). Grobet Swiss-pattern* Flat Hand (Pillar) Precision Files — also called Hand or Pillar files and similar to Equalling files — are general-purpose files for flat work. They are parallel in width, tapered in thickness, double-cut on the faces, with one edge single-cut and one edge safe (no teeth) for working up to a shoulder without marring.

Choosing Cuts (Jeweler’s Guide)

Cut Best For Typical Use in Jewelry
00–0 Fast stock removal Removing sprues, heavy casting cleanup
1–2 General shaping Fitting bezels, truing flats, deburring
3–4 Refining surfaces Pre-finish before sanding/polishing
6 Fine finishing Delicate cleanup where control matters

Swiss Pattern vs. Swiss Made*

Swiss-pattern describes the shapes/sizing/cut standards established in Switzerland. It does not guarantee Swiss manufacture. Grobet’s Swiss-pattern precision files have been made in Italy since 2015. If you require genuine Swiss-made precision files, they are sold under the Glardon-Vallorbe brand and will be marked “Swiss Made” with the UMV fish logo.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use a proper file handle on the tang (sold separately) for control and safety.
  • Chalk the file and clean with a file card to reduce pinning.
  • Cut on the push stroke; lift on the return to preserve the teeth.
  • Use the safe edge to work up to a shoulder without marking adjacent surfaces.
