Designed by Kent Raible and made in the USA, the Chopper Granulation Shear is a precision tool engineered for rapid, high-volume production of the tiny wire snippets used in granulation work. While it resembles a simple shear at first glance, the Chopper incorporates sophisticated engineering that sets it apart from conventional cutting tools.
The key innovation is a spring-loaded stop side that moves down and out of the way as the shear is actuated—eliminating the reset delay that slows conventional shears. The result: you can cut snippets as small as 0.1 mm in length as fast as you can move the lever. Kent himself reports chopping at up to 8 cuts per second. For even faster production, the Chopper accepts a double load of 0.4 mm wire, yielding twice the snippets per stroke. Kent works primarily with 0.4 mm wire, cutting a variety of snippet lengths mostly under 1.0 mm.
A built-in slide catches each snippet and directs it into an included container, keeping your precious metal cuts secure and organized at the bench.
