Emerald is considered the world's finest green gemstone and has been highly prized and coveted for centuries, from Cleopatra to European royalty. Emerald is part of the beryl family, and availability of fine quality is limited. Almost all emeralds have inclusions that are visible to the naked eye — the trade term Jardin is used to describe the characteristic mossy-like inclusions found within the stone. The majority of emeralds are also treated, with fractures filled with colorless oil to improve the stone's color and appearance.
These marquise faceted genuine emeralds display a medium-light to medium green color and are well suited for fine jewelry setting applications. To care for your emeralds, clean with warm, soapy water only. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, as these methods can damage the oil treatment and harm the stone.
