Agate is a type of chalcedony characterized by curved and angular bands of color that vary in hue and transparency. From patterns of lace, moss, and branches to entire landscapes of deserts and forests, agate is a unique and diverse gemstone. Agate typically forms inside gas cavities within volcanic rocks, with its characteristic banding resulting from growth layers that follow the contours of those cavities.
Moss Agate gets its distinctive appearance from inclusions of dark greenish chlorite mineral, which create the signature moss-like patterns visible within the stone. Each cabochon is semi-transparent to translucent, revealing medium to dark green inclusions that give every stone its own one-of-a-kind character. These calibrated 12mm x 6mm marquise cabochons are an excellent choice for open-back settings, allowing light to pass through and illuminate the natural mossy detail within.
Note: The product photo was taken with light from underneath to highlight the moss inclusions. Each stone has a unique pattern and will vary from the image shown.
