Oval Millgrain Tools-Sizes 1 to 15

These are Oval shaped Millgrain tools used by stone setters to dress up or decorate stone settings. Also available in a Round shape.  Oval shape is the more popular shape. The effect of the small, uniform depressions made by a Millgrain wheel helps make the stone look larger and brighter. Not to be confused with the larger decorative tools commonly used on a lathe for making the decorative edge of a wedding band, these stone setting Millgrain tools are extremely small and would be of very little help for such a use. The difference between size #1, which measures approximately .35mm across, and the largest size #15, which measures approximately .65mm, is only .30mm. That makes the difference between the sizes approximately .02mm. (We say approximately because they are so difficult to measure.) Millgrain tools are marked with a size number from 1 through 15 to help with identification. Millgrain tools are made in France. Millgrain tools are available in sets or individually.
