When light hits labradorite, an iridescent shimmer of spectral colors — commonly blue and green — occurs, known as labradorescence. This optical phenomenon is caused by light reflecting off the gem's microscopic internal layers, producing a luminous play of color that shifts with the viewing angle. Named after the location of its discovery in Labrador, Canada, labradorite belongs to the feldspar mineral family.
Labradorite is frequently cut into cabochons to best display its signature labradorescence. These round cabochons feature an opaque grey body color with vivid blue-green labradorescence and are offered in calibrated sizes, making them well-suited for setting in bezel, prong, or channel designs.
Care instructions: Clean with warm, soapy water only. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners.
