Description

Made with certified recycled precious metal. Our silver, gold and platinum is refined from certified recycled content rather than newly mined ore, through refiners audited by outside parties. How we source our metal

Silver sheet solder for hard (torch) soldering and brazing of silver jewelry and metalwork. Each sheet weighs approximately 5 pennyweights (1/4 troy ounce / 7.7 grams) and measures approximately 40 mm × 60 mm with a thickness of 0.30–0.33 mm. Choose from five flow points — Extra-Soft through Hard — to match the demands of new fabrication, repair work, or specialty applications such as enameling.

The grade names Extra-Soft, Soft, Medium, Medium-Hard, and Hard describe relative flow temperatures within this solder line. Each successive grade flows at a higher temperature, which generally produces a stronger bond. Note that flow point designations can vary between manufacturers; one maker's Medium may flow near another maker's Hard.

Extra-Soft solder (also called Extra-Easy) produces a pale yellow appearance and leaves a visible seam on silver. It is recommended for eyeglass repair and applications requiring the lowest flow point. Extra-Soft is the only grade in this line that contains cadmium. All other grades are cadmium-free.

Soft solder is also referred to as Easy solder.

Hard (IT) solder flows at 1490°F (810°C), above typical enameling firing temperatures, making it suitable for soldering findings onto pieces prior to enameling. Ensure this solder does not contact enamel directly — zinc-bearing solders can cause enamel to bubble if contact occurs.

Choosing a grade: When manufacturing, use the hardest (highest flow point) solder you can so future repairs can be made with lower-temperature solders. When repairing, use the softest grade possible, since the solder previously used is unknown.

Features

  • Five flow point grades available: Extra-Soft, Soft, Medium, Medium-Hard, and Hard
  • Sheet form for easy cutting and sizing to fit any seam
  • Each sheet weighs approximately 5 DWT (1/4 troy ounce / 7.7 grams)
  • For hard (torch) soldering and brazing only — not for soft soldering
  • Hard grade functions as IT solder for pre-enameling applications
  • All grades except Extra-Soft are cadmium-free

  • WARNING: Part #804-404 can expose you to cadmium, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
  • Hard (IT) solder must not come into contact with enamel during the enameling process — zinc-bearing solder contact may cause bubbling.
