The Vallorbe Swiss Eco Range Round Machinist File LS5580 is a professional-grade, double-cut engineers file designed for precision metalworking applications. This 8" (200mm) round file features a slight taper toward the cut end — it is neither parallel nor tapered to a point — making it well suited for enlarging and refining round openings, curved surfaces, and contoured profiles in metal.
These files are manufactured to Swiss pattern machinist and engineers standards, which differ from jewelers precision files in both cut coarseness and physical dimensions. On machinist files, length is measured from the tip of the file to the point where the tang begins to angle up toward the heel. A Second Cut (marked 2) machinist file provides a medium-fine cutting action appropriate for general filing, deburring, and surface refinement on harder materials.
Important: Machinist files (also called Engineers files) are made to a different standard than Jewelers Precision files. Cuts and shapes are not equivalent — a Machinist file Bastard cut (marked 1) is coarser than a jewelers file marked 1. Do not substitute one type for the other when precision fit or finish is required.
