Vertical Bench Vise

The basic idea is great - a regular vise isn't the tool of choice for holding a mandrel horizontally. Also, being able to clamp it to the bench top means I'm not committing surface area when not in use. Don't worry about sturdiness - that clamp holds it to the benchtop very firmly, if you tighten it hard enough. Still, I can't give it the highest marks. The clamp that holds it to a benchtop comes off easily, if permanent mounting suits you. But, when I got this vise, the bolts that hold the clamp to the vise base didn't hold. The ends of the bolts had been chamfered to mate with threaded holes, but the chamfer cut back so much of the thread that one bolt didn't engage at all. The second bolt was chamfered the same way, sout I doubt that much was holding things together. The supplier (not Frei) replaced the bolts and got me working. After two other small snags, it does the job. A very helpful tool - but setup took a lot more fussing than I expected.
