18K Gold Plumb Solder Kit

The 18K Gold Plumb Solder Kit provides three essential 18K yellow gold torch solders in a single convenient set — easy flow, medium flow, and hard flow. Each piece weighs approximately one half pennyweight (1/2 DWT), for a combined total of approximately 1-1/2 DWT. These are true plumb gold solders, meaning they match the karat of the metal they are intended for use with, making them the correct choice for constructing new jewelry pieces.

Plumb gold solders differ from repair solders in an important way: repair solders contain a lower gold content than the work they are applied to and are designed to flow before plumb solders. Use plumb gold solders for new fabrication work, and reserve repair solders for repair applications.

Easy, medium, and hard designations describe the relative flow temperatures of these solders to one another. Easy flow will flow first, followed by medium, then hard — allowing the jeweler to plan a sequence of solder joins on a single piece without reflowing earlier joints.

Notes

These are plumb gold solders intended for use in new jewelry construction. Do not use plumb gold solders as a substitute for repair solders — repair solders have a lower gold content and a lower flow temperature appropriate for repair work.
