Jewelers across Europe have long relied on the classic leather bench apron — also known as a bench skin or lap cloth — to catch precious metal filings and keep their work area organized. These top-quality cowhide bench aprons are imported for professional use and can be custom fitted to John Frei workbenches or adapted to virtually any jeweler's bench setup.
Each apron is hand sewn with reinforced edges for lasting durability. A single grommet positioned at the front allows the apron to be hooked back and kept out of the way when not in use. A 3½" canvas strip sewn along the top edge enables secure attachment to the underside of your workbench by drilling or using hooks.
When folded in half, the apron measures 30" long by 21" deep. Spread open, it accommodates bench openings from 20" to 36", with an optimal working width of 24" – 28".
Tech Tip: Leather aprons are easy to keep clean and make separating precious metal scrap types a straightforward procedure. To protect the apron from accidental soldering damage, simply let the front hang loose or hook it back away from the heat zone when soldering.
