European jewelers have long relied on the bench apron — also called a lap cloth or bench lap cloth — to catch filings and keep precious metal scrap organized at the workbench. This sheepskin version is imported from Germany and offers a more supple, smoother feel than the cowhide alternative, making it a refined choice for extended bench sessions. Like its cowhide counterpart, it is hand sewn with reinforced edges for lasting durability.
A single grommet at the front allows the apron to be hooked back and out of the way when not in use — particularly useful when soldering to protect the leather from accidental heat damage. A 3-1/2" canvas strip sewn along the top edge allows the apron to be fastened to the underside of your workbench using screws, hooks, or similar hardware. The apron is compatible with John Frei workbenches and can also be fitted to most standard jeweler's benches.
Tech Tip: Leather aprons are easy to keep clean and naturally encourage good shop habits — keeping different precious metal scrap types separated is straightforward when each material falls into its own designated area. When soldering, simply let the front of the apron hang loose, or hook it back away from the work area to protect it from flame or heat.
