The Fretz BT-4 is a seamless brass tube form designed specifically for making formed and hammered cuff bracelets. Measuring 2" in diameter and 5/8" wide, this blank is crafted from 20-gauge (.81mm) brass using seamless extruded tubing — the same material and process used by renowned metalsmith Bill Fretz in his bracelet-making work. These blanks became so frequently requested that Bill now offers them pre-made and ready for immediate use in the studio.
Each tube form is made from a malleable brass alloy composed of 70% copper and 30% zinc. The tubing is precision-cut, edge-finished on a belt sander, annealed for workability, and given a basic tumbled finish — arriving ready to form, hammer, and shape into finished cuff bracelets.
The 2" diameter is well-suited for average to thin wrists. When cut open, these blanks adapt to a wide range of wrist sizes depending on forming technique. As featured in Bill Fretz's DVD on cuff bracelet making, these forms are ideal for both convex (domed) and concave bracelet profiles.
Keep in mind: when making convex (domed) forms, the doming process will reduce the finished diameter of the piece. When making concave forms, the finished diameter is not affected.
