The Fretz M-133A Starting Concave Fluting Stake is purpose-built for creating handcrafted flutes on concave bracelets and other curved metal forms. Designed as the first step in a two-stake fluting process, the M-133A features a concave profile with a slightly rounded ridge and two distinctly angled concave planes on either side.
Side 1 is steeper and is used when flutes are positioned close together or when a wide, deep flute is desired. Side 2 offers a more gradual angle suited for general fluting when a subtle, refined flute is the goal. When used with a round crosspein hammer — such as the Fretz HMR-8 Rounded Narrow Crosspein or the HMR-9 Rounded Wide Crosspein — the stake produces a shimmering, planished surface finish.
This stake is designed to be used after the project has been formed on the concave Fretz M-104 Stake (part no. 112.734). The M-133A works in combination with the M-133B to complete the fluting process on concave surfaces.
How to Use
- Draw the desired flute lines on the formed concave piece using a sharp marker pen.
- Place the drawn line directly on the stake's ridge line.
- Planish the metal just below the pen line, driving the metal down toward the stake while maintaining a slight air pocket between the metal and the stake surface.
- Repeat on both sides of each drawn line until flutes are roughed out across the full surface of the project.
Features
- Concave profile with a slightly rounded ridge for precise flute placement
- Two angled concave planes — steeper Side 1 for deep or closely spaced flutes, gentler Side 2 for subtle general fluting
- Compatible with round crosspein hammers for a planished surface finish
- Designed for use after forming on the Fretz M-104 Concave Stake
- Part of the Fretz two-stake concave fluting system (M-133A and M-133B)

- Use with Fretz Extended Reach Stake Holder H-1L (112.719) for greater working clearance
- Use with Fretz Double Ended Stake Holder T-101 (112.721) for deeper access — note: requires a larger tang stake holder
- Use with Fretz Extender Holder E-101 (112.726) for additional reach — note: requires a larger tang stake holder
- Recommended companion hammers: Fretz HMR-8 Rounded Narrow Crosspein and Fretz HMR-9 Rounded Wide Crosspein
- Designed for use following the Fretz M-104 Large Concave Stake (112.734)
- Used in sequence with the Fretz M-133B for a complete concave fluting process
Notes
- The T-101 and E-101 stake holders have larger tangs and require compatible larger stake holders — verify sizing before ordering.
- This stake is intended as the starting step in the concave fluting process; follow with the M-133B for finishing.
