Buff files — also called buffing files — are not traditional cutting files but ceramic-coated finishing and burnishing tools shaped like familiar needle file profiles. Instead of reaching for emery sticks, fine abrasive paper, or abrasive stones, you can now use popular needle file shapes to achieve precise finishing in hard-to-reach places. These tools file and polish simultaneously, leaving crisp, clean delineations between details and planes that abrasive rubber wheels simply cannot match.
This set includes 6 needle file shaped buff files from Glardon-Vallorbe, model series LAC2462-140-G10.
Buff files are coated with a composite that includes synthetic diamond particles. Compared to conventional abrasive grits, the G10 rating corresponds to approximately 500–800 grit (30–20 micron) under normal pressure. With light pressure, performance approaches 900–1200 grit (20–15 micron). The anti-corrosive coating means these tools resist rust and hold up well through extended use.
Buff files excel on hard materials such as titanium, steel, and high-karat white gold alloys, and can even be used on enamel surfaces. They are well suited for beveling, flank finishing, cleaning casting sprue lines, deburring jewelry, and replacing rubber wheel finishing steps with greater precision and control.
When used on soft materials such as gold, buff files require occasional cleaning. Recommended methods include an ultrasonic cleaner, a quick dip in alcohol, or Bergeon Rodico cleaning rubber — a standard tool among watchmakers and laser welder operators.
All individual needle file shapes in this set are also available separately. See part number 133.101MAIN for individual needle file shapes and 133.118MAIN for escapement file shapes.
