Glardon-Vallorbe LEC3062-55-G10 Buff File Set of 6-Escapement File Shapes

Buff files finish and burnish in the confined places where an escapement file has already done the cutting, so you can refine bevels, flanks, and the edges between details without reaching for emery sticks, fine abrasive paper, or abrasive stones. This Glardon-Vallorbe set, model LEC3062-55-G10, gathers six of the most useful escapement file profiles, each 55mm long and supplied as a tang only with no handle. Sold as a set of 6.

Buff files are not files in the classic sense. They are ceramic-coated finishing and burnishing tools carrying a composite that includes synthetic diamond particles. Against conventional abrasive grits, the G10 rating falls between 500–800 grit (30–20 micron) under normal pressure and closer to 900–1200 grit (20–15 micron) with light pressure. The coating is anti-corrosive, so the files resist rust, and they last up to 10 times longer than a wooden buff.

They file and polish simultaneously, leaving crisp delineations between details and planes rather than blurring fine edges the way rubber wheels can. Their stiffness lets you create sharp edges and reach confined areas with control.
