The Fretz HMR-108 is a large rounded narrow raising hammer designed for serious metalsmithing and silversmithing work. Part of the largest series in the Fretz hammer line, the HMR-108 is comparable in scale to full-size silversmith hammers and is built for demanding raising work on larger projects. Raising is the compression of metal down to the stake without stretching it. The technique requires angling the metal off the stake to create an air gap for compression.
