Designed in collaboration with master jeweler Alan Revere, the Fretz Revere R-CR Chasing/Riveting Hammer combines two purpose-built faces into a single, well-balanced tool for jewelry making. As Alan Revere describes it: "Essential for jewelry making, this hammer combines two faces, which are used in different operations. The chasing face is used to strike tools only, not jewelry. Use it for center punches, chasing punches, etc. The surface is not maintained and will show marks and dings, which is fine because this tool is not used on jewelry metals themselves. The riveting face is a small cross peen. It is ideal for upsetting, or spreading the ends of rivets when cold-joining metals. The hammer needs no maintenance."

The round chasing face measures 25mm (approximately 1") in diameter and is flat, not domed — a deliberate design choice, as a domed face can allow a strike to slide off its intended target. The face carries a standard machine finish rather than a high-polish surface, a practical decision since the chasing end is used to strike tools, not jewelry metals directly.

The opposite face is a cross peen riveting head measuring 10 x 2mm, ideal for upsetting and spreading rivet ends when cold-joining metals. Beyond riveting, this cross peen can also be used for texturing and light-duty raising — a more versatile choice than a traditional ball peen, in Mr. Revere's view.

The pistol-shaped handle is intentionally thinner than those found on most contemporary hammers, providing excellent balance and sensitivity in the hand. The handle features a distinctive deep texture developed to Alan Revere's exact specifications — unlike the smooth, polished handles found on other Fretz hammers, this texture enhances feel and control during use.
