The Peddiman 51 Embossing Hammer is a classic silversmithing tool designed for rapid three-dimensional forming from the back of sheet metal. Think of it as a double-ended dapping tool mounted on a hammer—with the power, speed, and 500-gram weight needed to efficiently emboss or dome out complex forms. This technique is also a foundational element of repoussé work.
The extended 160mm (6.5") hammer head length allows the user to reach deep into forms such as bowls and cups, making it ideal for raising projects by sinking a metal disc into a depression. The two face diameters—24mm on one end and 27mm on the other—give the metalsmith versatility in a single tool. Use it to start hand-forged spoon work by striking the center and radiating blows outward in 360 degrees to move metal evenly. The embossing hammer also doubles as a texturing tool, capable of producing a deep, distinctive dimpled surface texture.
All Peddiman embossing hammers are polished to a mirror finish, ensuring clean, mark-free contact with precious metals during forming.
