The Miller Smith H753 Combination Flashback Arrestors/Check Valves are regulator-mounted safety devices sold as a pair, designed for oxy-fuel cutting and welding systems. These units combine two critical functions in a single device: extinguishing flashback fires and stopping reverse gas flow. Mount them between the regulator and the hose for protection at the source.
Flashback arrestors are an essential safety component in any oxy-fuel setup. A flashback occurs when mixed gases ignite within the system, potentially sending a flame back toward the gas supply. The H753 units extinguish that flame before it can travel further. The integrated check valve adds a second layer of protection by shutting off gas flow when back pressure drops below ½ psi and requires a minimum of 2 psi to open and allow gas to flow through.
Understanding the difference between a check valve and a flashback arrestor is important: a check valve stops reverse gas flow, while a flashback arrestor extinguishes a flashback fire. The H753 does both. Mixed gas explosions and flashback fires can result in equipment damage, severe personal injury, or death—making these combination units a critical part of any safe oxy-fuel workstation.
