Swiss Torch ART.246SMALL is a compact 90-degree bent-head compressed air casting torch head designed for small-scale casting and annealing work. At 4-1/4" (110mm) in length, this version is shorter than the standard model (6") and features a smaller 15mm diameter rosebud tip compared to the 20mm tip on the original. The bent head geometry and reduced tip size make this torch well suited for casting small amounts of gold or silver, as well as for use as an annealing torch.
This torch head is designed for use with compressed air and gas only. It is not designed for use with oxygen. If used with oxygen, the tip will be damaged. The torch head is stamped D-1.5 bar — where "D" stands for Druckluft, the German word for compressed air — indicating the required operating pressure of 1.5 Bar (21 PSI).
Using compressed air and gas offers several practical advantages for casting. A compressed air flame contains less oxygen than a pure oxygen/gas setup, resulting in a slightly cooler but still highly effective flame. It also produces a larger, bushier flame that covers the crucible completely and introduces less oxidation risk compared to a pure oxygen/gas melt. This approach is widely used by jewelers throughout Europe. For best results, use with propane — natural gas does not burn as hot. Do not use with acetylene or hydrogen gas.
