Description

Thin, texture, and reduce non-ferrous sheet and stock at the bench with a hand-cranked mill that gears the effort down. The Silver Economy 76mm (3") Flat Rolling Mill with Reduction Gear is Otto Frei's best-selling economy mill for studio and classroom use, built by Value Line and made in India. Designed for light-duty work on soft, non-ferrous metals, it features a protected 4:1 reduction gear train, high-carbon steel flat rolls, and simple T-bar adjustment, with no flywheel required. Whether you are thinning sheet metal or texturing stock, this mill delivers dependable performance.

Features

  • Roll Size: 76 mm (3") wide x 43 mm diameter high-carbon steel flat rolls
  • Gear Reduction: 4:1 ratio, so four handle turns rotate the rolls once for easier cranking
  • Adjustment: T-bar roller adjustment for quick, straightforward gap setting
  • Protected Gears: Covered reduction and side gears guard against contamination and wear
  • Max Sheet Thickness: 2.0 mm, so anneal often and take small passes for best results
  • Non-Ferrous Use: Optimized for silver, gold, copper, and brass
  • Warranty: 12-month warranty (non-motorized use only)

Compatibility

Optimized for soft, non-ferrous metals: silver, gold, copper, and brass. Do not roll steel or other ferrous metals. Maximum sheet thickness through the rolls is 2.0 mm.

Great Rolling Mill and Great Price

I purchased my rolling mill in 2017 and I've never had a problem with it in nearly 9 years. I use it for copper, brass, and silver, for wearables and display pieces.

I'm only looking it up after all this time because a compression spring was lost during a recent move and I need a replacement.

Just what I needed

This is super easy to use even without a lot of muscle! Does a great job with the fine/petite Bonny Doon rolling plates on 22 and 24 ga soft silver.

Terrific little machine

I needed a rolling mill for a wood working project -- to roll out some brass to a uniform thickness. It works flawlessly. The instructions that accompany it are very clear with plenty of photographs that make it easy to get up and running. There's a lot of grease to deal with when it is unpacked but everything arrived in pristine condition. Lastly, the packaging is bullet-proof -- the middle box (yes there are three) is covered in woven polyethylene tape.

Great Rolling Mill

Great rolling mill! I replaced an old rolling mill that I've had for over 10 years and this one is better than my previous in so many ways. Great purchase!

Love it!

I absolutely love this rolling mill. I'm a beginner at making jewelry, although I've been making rings from coins for a couple of years now. I use it to flatten and erase details from coins to make pendants, or other jewelry. I also use it to flatten thick gauge wire. Since I'm still learning I don't need any other rolls at this time, but this machine does offer the option of using many other types of rolls that can also be purchased at Otto Frei. I look forward to developing my skills so that I can move on to the fancy stuff. Excellent customer service also. It was worth the 40 mile drive from my home!

Can you texture metal with this rolling mill, with texture plates?

OttoFrei.com

Yes you can. Just like on more expensive mills.

What is the difficulty level to change rollers in this unit?

OttoFrei.com

Very simple process requiring one crescent wrench and a screwdriver. We have step by step instructions that you can download available in the product copy above.

Can I bolt this down on my workbench? What is the opening between rollers in mm?

OttoFrei.com

Yes you can bolt this to a bench and you should. There are 2 holes for securing the mill using bolts. Mounting hardware is not supplied. The mill has a recommended maximum opening of 2mm. You can open up the gap a little more, but that puts more pressure on the gear teeth.
