The 17 degree bur is used to match the standard 17 degree taper found on most round tapered prong and bezel settings to a shank. This solves the problem of having to hand file correct profile on a shank to match a settings profile. Just drill the shank with this bur and the result is a clean, accurate fit with no rocking, no gaps, and in most cases, no need for secondary correction
The 17 Degree Bur is engineered to solve one of the most common fitting challenges in stone setting work. Standard tapered prong and bezel settings have a natural taper that rarely matches a straight-drilled hole, requiring time-consuming hand filing to achieve a proper seat. This bur eliminates that extra step.
Made exclusively for Otto Frei in Germany, this 17 degree cone shape bur is mounted on a 3/32" (2.35mm) shank and is ready for use in any quick change or adjustable chuck flex shaft handpiece or micromotor handpiece.
