Chasing and repousse work calls for a graduated family of punches plus matting faces to texture the ground, and this kit assembles three matched Nechamkin groups into one working collection: the 25-piece core chasing set, the 4-piece specialty matting set, and the 10-piece small pattern chasing set.

The groups were developed by master chaser Liza Nechamkin to give professional jewelers and metalsmiths a ready-to-use chasing arsenal. Every tool is formed from W1 tool steel with heat-treated tips, square shanks with chamfered corners and a satin finish for comfort in hand, and precisely shaped, polished faces that track smoothly across metalwork. Long, balanced tapers provide clear sight lines to the working face for confident, controlled results, and every tool is numbered for fast identification at the bench.

Notes

• Eye protection required. Always wear safety glasses when striking tools.
• Dress striking ends regularly: file or grind away natural mushrooming to prevent chips and hazards.
• Corrosion control: a light lacquer is applied for storage and will wear with use. Keep tools clean, dry, and stored in the container, and oil lightly for extended storage. Remove minor shank rust with steel wool, fine abrasive paper, or a coarse synthetic pad.
• Face maintenance: polish with green rouge or steel polish on a soft buff and avoid excessive polishing. For more control, charge a flannel with a touch of linseed oil plus compound and rub the face across it on a flat surface.
