Otto Frei 4-1/2" Mirror Polished Prong Pulling Pliers are a modified pair of chain nose pliers engineered specifically for prong work. The lower jaw is grooved to support the prong, while the upper jaw is slightly cut back and hooked so it can grab the prong as it lays against the stone. Recommended for pulling prongs up to 1.50 mm thick. Note: the 5-1/8" version of these pliers features a more pronounced hook for more aggressive prong work.
These pliers are made in Germany by one of the last manufacturers of handmade pliers remaining in Europe. The mirror polished finish requires additional hand finishing beyond standard production, reflecting the exceptional quality and craftsmanship built into every pair.
The pliers are constructed from tough carbon steel, which is significantly harder than stainless steel — an important characteristic for the demands of precision bench work. Because carbon steel is affected by moisture in the air and from handling, the mirror polish will naturally develop a patina over time with use. To preserve the finish, store the pliers under an oiled rag, wipe them down at the end of each workday, and polish occasionally with green rouge.
