This tabletop polariscope is designed to quickly differentiate between singly refractive (isotropic) and doubly refractive (anisotropic) stones. By placing a stone between two polarizing filters and rotating the upper lens, you can observe characteristic light changes that reveal a stone’s optical behavior—an essential step in gemstone identification.
