The Presidium Gem Tester II (PGT II) provides fast, laboratory-proven answers for jewelers and gemologists working with both mounted and loose stones. This professional-grade color stone estimator eliminates human error in gem identification by measuring the rate at which different gemstones conduct heat — a physical property unique to each stone type.

Simply touch the sophisticated thermoelectric probe to the surface of any stone, and the specially calibrated dial displays the relative heat conductivity of the material, allowing for rapid identification across the most popular precious gemstone families. The PGT II is the latest generation of the Presidium Gem Tester and introduces an updated, easier-to-read display along with an important new Diamond/Moissanite indicator. Because moissanite conducts heat at a rate identical to diamond, the updated dial now alerts the user when a stone falls within that range — signaling that additional visual testing is required to distinguish between the two.

Moissanite can be identified visually using a 10x loupe, as moissanite exhibits double refraction. Diamond does not.

The Presidium Gem Tester II cannot distinguish between diamond and moissanite by thermal conductivity alone, as both materials conduct heat at the same rate. When a stone tests in the Diamond/Moissanite range, visual inspection with a 10x loupe is recommended. Moissanite displays double refraction under magnification; diamond does not.
