Ring Reducing Plate

This high-quality, double-sided reducing plate features sixteen openings — eight per side — and is smoothly polished to prevent marring of precious metal bands. Each hole shares the same starting diameter but offers a different taper on each side, giving you 16 distinct reduction choices from a single 8-hole plate.

The primary application for this reducing plate is the slight size reduction of plain round precious metal wedding bands in gold or platinum. It is designed to fit the Italian-made ring stretcher and reducer (item 148.350), which uses a round plate that presses down on the ring as the tool lever is pulled.

When reducing ring sizes, the 27mm outside diameter of the largest hole can reduce a USA size 13–14 plain domed band of medium weight by a full size. Note that the outside diameter of the ring is the limiting factor — not the nominal ring size of the band. This plate is also well suited for making coin rings.
