Ring Stretcher-Rathburn

The Rathburn Ring Stretcher offers a simple, effective method for enlarging plain non-ferrous metal (gold, silver or copper) wedding bands without the need for complex equipment. Designed for basic, unadorned bands, this stretcher is not suitable for stone-set rings. Before use, always inspect the band for previous solder welds, as weakened seams may break under the pressure required to stretch the metal. 

There are 3 parts to the Rathburn Ring Stretcher

• The nylon base
• The expandable mandrel
• The tapered expander

To use, place the expandable mandrel on top of the nylon base.  Then place the ring onto the expandable mandrel and insert the tapered expander. Gently tapping the top of the tapered expander with a nylon mallet or similar hammer will cause the expandable mandrel to stretch the ring incrementally.  Have a graduated ring mandrel handy so you can check the ring size after every tap, as you don't want to go beyond the target size as there is no going back!

The Rathburn Ring Stretcher accommodates ring sizes starting at USA size 8½ up to size 15. Rings smaller than size 8½ will not fit on the mandrel and cannot be stretched with this tool.

Notes

• Rings smaller than USA size 8½ will not fit on the mandrel.
• Always inspect bands for prior solder welds before stretching—weakened seams may fail under pressure.
• Use care and apply only gentle tapping force to avoid breaking the band and marring the inside of the band.
  
• For gold, silver and other non-ferrous metals only
• Hard metals, (steel, titanium, etc.) are not recommended as they might damage the tool or get stuck on the expandable mandrel.
