Important: Machinist files (also called Engineers files) are made to a different standard than Jewelers Precision files. Cuts and shapes are not interchangeable. A Machinist file Bastard cut (marked 1) is coarser than a jewelers file marked 1. Machinist file dimensions also differ slightly from those of Jewelers Precision files. Length on Machinist files is measured from the tip of the file to the point where the tang begins to angle up toward the heel — not from tip to heel, as on Jewelers Precision files.
