El coral es una gema orgánica, compuesta por los esqueletos externos de los pólipos de coral. El coral está hecho de carbonato de calcio, sin estructura cristalina y comúnmente se le da forma de cuentas, tallas, camafeos y cabujones. El uso del coral en joyería se remonta a más de 30.000 años desde tiempos prehistóricos y sigue teniendo una gran demanda, aunque la oferta es limitada debido a la contaminación y la protección del medio ambiente. Debido a su suavidad, el coral debe usarse con cuidado y deben evitarse los productos químicos, el calor y la abrasión. Limpiar con agua tibia y jabón. Evite el uso de limpiadores ultrasónicos y de vapor.
