Part # 114.259 73 In Stock Weight -- lb / -- g
Current price $119.00

Description

A hand-held, refillable butane torch for soldering and general work at the bench.

The Orca MP-99 is a compact, portable, refillable butane torch designed for jewelers and metalsmiths who need bench-top precision in a hand-held form. Sharing the same gas flow regulator and air-mixture control found on the EZ Torch, the MP-99 delivers a wider range of temperatures and flame sizes than typical refillable torches, which makes it well suited for fine soldering, small-part work, and general bench tasks. The torch ships empty and includes the small tip (114.252); medium and large EZ Torch tips are compatible and sold separately.

Features

  • Compact, hand-held butane torch with professional-grade flame control
  • Gas flow regulator and air-mixture control provide a broad temperature and flame-size range
  • Reaches a maximum temperature of 2280°F (1250°C)
  • Refillable butane tank with 25 g (0.8 oz) capacity
  • Estimated run time of 40–120 minutes per fill (usage dependent)
  • Compatible with EZ Torch small, medium, and large tips (114.252, 114.253, 114.254)
  • Includes small tip 114.252, the same tip used with the EZ Torch
  • Torch ships empty; fill with pressurized butane (see 114.214)

Compatibility

The MP-99 accepts EZ Torch tips. Medium (114.253) and large (114.254) tips are sold separately.

Tip Part # Typical Use
Small (included) 114.252 Fine soldering, small parts
Medium (sold separately) 114.253 General bench soldering
Large (sold separately) 114.254 Heavier heat, larger joints

Notes

What you get:

  • Orca MP-99 butane torch (ships empty)
  • Small tip, Part # 114.252

Lighting: Set the air regulator fully closed, open the gas regulator approximately ½ turn until gas is audible, then ignite. Add air gradually and fine-tune the gas knob until a stable blue flame is achieved. Close the gas knob completely to extinguish; keep closed when not in use.

Refueling: Use pressurized butane (see 114.214) in a well-ventilated, flame-free area with the gas knob fully closed. Invert both the torch and butane can, seat the can nozzle on the fill valve, and press to fill for no longer than 30 seconds. Set the torch upright and allow 1–5 minutes to stabilize before lighting. If gas sputters from the fill hole, slowly crack the gas knob to vent excess and wipe any residue before lighting.

Safety: Read all instructions before operating. Keep out of reach of children. Refuel only in ventilated areas away from ignition sources. Do not light if fuel is sputtering or if residue is present on the torch exterior. Do not touch the burner while hot. Do not store or use above 105°F (40°C). Do not leave in direct sunlight.

I'm really happy with my new Orca MP99 butane

I'm really happy with my new Orca MP99 butane torch. I got right into using it. The three tips give me the different types of heat I need and it solders quickly and well. My only problem is that the tips get so hot, you need to be careful changing from one to the other. I'm sure that's something that's unavoidable and I'll get used to dealing with it. Other than that, I love the torch. It was shipped to me right away and arrived quickly and well packaged. Thanks Otto Frei.

Orca MP99 butane torch

I am convinced I will become attached to the Orca MP 99 butane torch as time goes by, The instruction was probably written by a person who is in the process of learning English. I viewed the available YouTube videos to gain more insight. Still it was not clear when to open and close the air chamber. I thought after filling the torch with butane, I was to open it to let the air and butane mix. But not so, it is to be opened where adjusting the flame.

does this torch have more than on head? I see temp upper limit 2250F- will it melt silver for an ingot? thanks

OttoFrei.com

The Orca Hobby only has one head, the one as pictured. We do not recommend using this torch for melting "ingots". Perhaps up to one half troy ounce of silver can be melted. This is a soldering torch, not a melting or casting torch.

Where is this made? How does it compare to the Dremel Mini Torch?

OttoFrei.com

The Orca Hobby torch is made in Brazil by the same company that makes our popular EZ Torch 114.250 & 114.251. Sorry but we have no idea on how it compares to the Dremel brand mini torch. The Orca Hobby torch has been well receieved but it is brand new. The workmanship and quality is better than any other hand held butane torch we have sold. We expect to have some product reviews shortly.
