Anyone who has had the good fortune to take a class at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts knows that Alan Revere holds his tools to extremely high standards. His personal collection is extensive yet purposeful — he can explain in precise detail why one tool is made correctly for a task while a remarkably similar-looking tool falls short. The details matter, and for goldsmithing in the classic tradition as taught by Alan Revere, there are quite a few details to sort out. This kit brings together two of his signature hammers: the Fretz-Revere Chasing/Riveting Hammer and the Fretz-Revere Goldsmithing/Cross Peen Hammer, each designed to exacting specifications developed in collaboration with Alan Revere himself.

  • R-GF Goldsmithing/Cross Peen: domed goldsmithing face for precise radial forging and planishing; larger cross peen face for stretching metal in one direction, raising, or texturing
  • R-GF handle: round (non-pistol) shape chosen for superior sturdiness
  • R-GF head: smaller profile yet surprisingly hefty and well balanced in hand
  • R-CR Chasing/Riveting: flat 25mm (approx. 1") round chasing face for striking tools such as center punches and chasing punches — flat profile prevents strike from sliding off target
  • R-CR handle: thinner pistol-grip shape for excellent balance suited to chasing work
  • R-CR cross peen face: riveting-style head ideal for upsetting and spreading rivet ends when cold-joining; also suitable for texturing and light raising
  • R-CR chasing face features a standard machine finish — a practical choice since this face strikes tools, not jewelry
  • Both R-GF faces can be maintained with Scotch-Brite® or 220-grit abrasive paper — no polishing required unless the hammer is the final tool to contact the work
  • R-CR hammer requires no maintenance
