Description

From Alan Revere:

"This is my signature combination of two essential hammer faces. It is ideal for small forging projects. The cross peen is used to stretch metal in one direction when forging. The goldsmithing face is used for radial forging, moving metal outward in all directions, as well as planishing to remove marks left by the cross peen. Both faces can be used to produce attractive textures. There is no need to polish either end, just keep them tidy with Scotch Brite® or 220 abrasive paper. Unless this hammer is the final tool to touch the work, there is no need to polish. This hammer is required for classes at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, California."

The Fretz Revere R-GF Goldsmithing/Crosspein Hammer combines two essential hammer faces into one precisely balanced tool. The head is notably compact yet surprisingly hefty, delivering confident feel and control during small forging projects. The domed goldsmithing face is shaped for precise radial forging — moving metal outward in all directions — and for planishing to remove marks left by the cross peen. The cross peen face is larger than the riveting end found on the Revere Chasing Hammer, making it well suited for raising and texturing work.

The handle is round rather than pistol-shaped, a deliberate choice for added sturdiness. Unlike the smooth, polished handles found on other Fretz hammers, the Revere handle features a distinctive, deep texture developed to Alan Revere's exact specifications — the same philosophy behind the textured Revere Pliers — providing enhanced sensitivity and grip during use.

The Hammer is fine and works as expected. However…

The Hammer is fine and works as expected. What I don’t like is the handle. (I am quite sure I chose something wrong) it is made out of some sort of hard plastic with a figured wood grain that is uncomfortable to hold. It lacks the lovely smooth wooden handle feeling I am used to. I solved my issue with some electrical tape until I can dip it so everything is perfect now.

Hi Nancy, The unusual texture of the hammer handle is a feature that Alan Revere specified in his line of hammers made by Fretz.I believe he said it helps one to keep a light and mindful grip.
