Jasper is an opaque chalcedony displaying a rich variety of colors and patterns, making each stone a truly unique, one-of-a-kind specimen. These oval red jasper cabochons feature a distinctive brownish-red base accented with black dots, swirls, and banding — no two stones are exactly alike. Jasper belongs to the chalcedony family, which is composed of microscopic quartz crystals invisible to the naked eye. Historically prized for carvings such as cameos and intaglios, chalcedony was also used as an authenticating seal on important documents in ancient times. These untreated, natural cabochons are well-suited for stone setting projects, jewelry fabrication, and resale.
