We recommend the book   Tumble Finishing For Handmade Jewelry-Mass Finishing On A Small Scale By Judy Hoch as a great resource for anyone interested in mass finishing.

Vibratory Tumbling is an economical mass finishing technique for cutting down and polishing metal jewelry parts of just about any kind. The donut shaped bowls on the larger units produce uniform polishing and maximum coverage. Vibratory tumbling is almost twice as fast as rotary tumbling, and works particularly well with plastic or ceramic media run wet with detergent for cut down cycles in as little as 4 to 6 hours. The donut shaped models are ready to accept a flow-thru system, a process where fresh detergent solution drips in while old spent detergent drips out. Vibratory tumblers also work great with dry polishing media for achieving a final polish.

Pros:

Economical and Versatile-One tumbler can do many things-an aggressive abrasive cut down to remove scratches, a milder abrasive action for pre-polishing and a final bright smooth dry polish. Great for production runs!

Cons:

It’s a Process-Be patient and follow directions carefully. Each step requires 4-6 hours or more. Flow thru system must be used during cut down to keep media & solution clean. Following directions is critical
