Description

This nickel-based white master alloy — previously called White Century — is formulated for investment casting and fabrication of 9K–18K white gold. Specially engineered for peak performance in enclosed or automated casting equipment, it contains copper, nickel, and zinc, plus a small amount of silicon as a deoxidizer. Additional proprietary metals are present in the formulation that are not listed in the published composition. Sold by the troy ounce (20 pennyweight / 31.1 grams).

Features

  • Nickel-based alloy suitable for 9K–18K white gold casting and fabrication
  • Produces a white finished color
  • Optimized for enclosed and automated casting equipment
  • Contains silicon as a deoxidizer for cleaner melts
  • Previously marketed as White Century alloy

Usage Instructions

Pre-alloy all alloy and fine gold together with aggressive stirring and fluxing to ensure a uniform mixture before casting.

  1. Step 1 – Pre-Alloying Temperature (fine gold + alloy): 1050°C – 1060°C / 1922°F – 1940°F
  2. Step 2 – Casting Temperature for 9K–10K alloyed grain: 1030°C – 1040°C / 1886°F – 1904°F
  3. Step 3 – Casting Temperature for 14K–18K alloyed grain: 1000°C – 1020°C / 1832°F – 1868°F

Flask Temperature: 580°C – 700°C / 1076°F – 1292°F, depending on flask size, karat, and jewelry type.

Fluxing: Fluxing white gold is critical for collecting oxides. Boric acid is the recommended flux. Do not use carbon fluxes or refining fluxes such as soda ash or saltpeter. Avoid flux in bottom-pour automatic casting units.

Quench Time: 10–15 minutes.

Investment Removal: Most standard investment removers will successfully remove investment powder. Aggressive acids cause stress corrosion and surface damage and are not recommended.

Scrap Reuse: A 70% fresh–30% scrap mix is recommended. White gold alloy has approximately one-third the reusability of yellow gold alloys.

Notes

  • Melt temperature may vary depending on casting unit type.
  • Proprietary metals are present in the formulation and are not included in the published composition percentages.
  • This product contains nickel. See California Proposition 65 warnings as applicable.
